Survival

So... I had planned on writing a very snarky post about tonight's Survivor. (Do Jeff and Kim think they're headed for RobandAmberville? Really? And do they think that's a new strategy? Gotta love Ashlee and her crushin on Ibraham the Cutie.) I do have to say that I'm so glad that it's back! I was worried about my first reality love for the last couple of seasons.

But then I got a phone call from my step-mom. Her mom passed away tonight and she was crying. Her mom has had Alzheimer's for the past 10 or so years and has been in a nursing home for 6 or 7. She sobbed and said that now she's all alone. Her dad died when she was 29, same age as I was when my dad died. And then my dad, the love of her life, died 5 years ago. She has been so strong and so focused on making it thru each day and I admire her for that strength. I'm just not sure why it seems like the people who are hurting get heaped with more and more until it's just ridiculous. I guess it breaks down to survival... some people can make it all 39 days (or 80 years) and some give up early and become bitter and broken. I believe that if you have had a passionate love in your life, it makes the rough stuff easier to deal with and the great stuff even better. My husband is my best friend and I'm so lucky to have him... I'd better go tell him. Maybe I should call my mom, too.

Trend girl

Yep, that's me. Sad, but true. I'm not sure I actually have anything interesting to say about anything, but I have to give it a try. Everyone else on planet E-Arth has a blog, so here I am. Just like a journal, I guess. And I always had one of those. Especially in middle school. Sadly, I think they were lost during some move... or maybe tossed out of indiference during my 20's. Now that I have a teenager, I wish I had them back. That and the huge Gap bag of notes my friends and I passed in 8th grade. Where did that go? Ahhh, good times.
So... what am I passionate about?
My family. Fab hubby, 2 v.cool daughters, menagerie of 2 cats, 1 hamster, lots of fish. Lots of extended family... all good.
Reality tv... I know- again, trend girl. My hubby says I never met a cult I wouldn't join. But give me my "real" people who are willing to expose themselves to the entire country. I ^heart^ them. Survivor, The Bachelorette, American Idol are all must watches now. Plus, the message boards are fun and fun. I never post, I'm just a lurker, but you can't beat it for entertainment value.
Music...no talent what so ever here, but I love listening to good stuff. I'm fond of the cute singer/songwriter with a guitar type. New favorite: Michael Tolcher... rocking to 'Miracle' right now. Saw him open for Gavin DeGraw recently and he was great. Actually, Gavin is super, too. We met him before the show and he was super nice also. Also listening to: Liz Phair, Kelly Clarkson, Bowling for Soup, REM, and for kid's music, Justin Roberts.
That's it for now... not that anyone but me will read this. I have to go try to be creative in the kitchen. Sigh. Any ideas for dinner?
