Totally forgot to post about the incredible concert that Dawn and I went to on Tuesday night.
I have to clarify that I'm not often out partying on weeknights. This was a special occasion that I'm still paying for, but totally worth it.
Carbon Leaf and Michael Tolcher were at Blueberry Hill ( www.blueberryhill.com) in University City. They have this smallish room in the basement that has great accoustics. I had never seen a show there, so we weren't sure of what to expect, but we had the best time.
We were running later than we had expected, but still managed to get a spot leaning against one of the bars lining the side wall. Right next to the equipment. Stay with me, this will be important later. A dude with a mohawk and a guitar started us off. Sorry, didn't catch his name. He was ok... trying a little to hard to catch and keep the audiences attention. But not bad.
Next was Carbon Leaf (www.carbonleaf.com), who I had not heard of before. I guarantee that I know more about them now. They had a big following there. And they were awesome. Great set and NICE... nice, nice, nice afterwards. All of them were friendly and I'm not a 21 yr old in a low cut top, you know. Dawn talked to them about playing our Expo in the fall. That would be cool.
So as Dawn is talking to the lead singer from CL, Michael Tolcher (www.michaeltolcher.com) walks by. I had seen him earlier at the bar talking to a chicky, but I'm not usually one to talk to famous or semi-famous people when I see them. I'm dorky about that stuff. We had been talking to the couple standing next to us (Hi, Kendall and Nick!) who just so happened to be from the same town we are. So, Nick grabbed his sleeve and said, "She wants to say hi." about Kendall. Michael turned and smiled and said "Hi, I'm Michael." They talked for a moment and then he turned to me and said, "I'm Michael." and I froze. "I'm Amy and I love your music." was all I got out. He was cool and said that he hoped we enjoyed the show. Kendall and I were jumping up and down like middle schoolers. It was so funny. Dawn was bumming when she got back.
I have to say, though, that he looked really tired. (I'm a mom.) Get some sleep, Michael! But the show was great! He just rocked.
Alas, it was over at 1... and I was up 4 hours past my bedtime. But it was worth it!
Sure can't party like I used to.

Meh.
Carrie.
Not suprised, not excited. Not really anything. This is the first year in 4 that I'm just nothing about the winner of American Idol.
I knew from the beginning that Simon had picked Carrie to be the winner. In interviews before the show even aired, he said there was a girl he thought would win it all. Good business accumen? Fixed? Who knows.
I know the powers that be at AI are probably hoping to repeat Kelly's success, but what they are discounting is that Kelly has a personality. And I'm just not sure about Carrie yet.
Bo will do well, though. I think Vonzell will have a deal, possibly Anthony, too. I'm hoping Nikko, too. Scott, Mikahla, Lyndsay, Nadia will probably disappear after the tour. Which, also for the first time in 4 years, I'm not planning on attending.
Ok, I'm disappointed that what I thought was going to be the best season ever ended with a wimper. Can't help it. And now all my reality finales are done and I have nothing to watch.
Sigh. I need a life.

End of the School Year Crazies
Ok... so I forgot to post. For weeks. I have an excuse, really.
Wait, no one else reads this, so I don't have to make excuses! Yeah!
Anyway, we have the end of the school year crazies. Band concerts, chorus concerts, Honors Banquet, field trips, dance recitals, PTA mtgs, etc. I'm ready for next Thursday when all I'll have to do is put up with both kids 24 hours a day... oh wait, did I mean that?
So... Reality TV has also been keeping me busy.
American Idol... Bo's my man. I didn't like him much at first- actually, I'm still not sure I love him- but I hated Carrie from the very beginning. I loved Nikko and when he was voted off the 2nd time, I lost interest. I was rooting for Vonzell, but my favorite never wins. Not Justin, not Kimberly, not JPL. I guess it doesn't matter... hey, maybe I should root for Carrie. A little reverse psychology.
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I actually watched the Bachelor finale. I stayed true to my vow and didn't watch any others, but, ok, it was LIVE, people. I was waiting for the train wreck to happen. That said, I was fairly impressed with how Charlie handled everything. And Krisily... I loved her! I think she was everything I'd want to be in that situation.
Anyway, Charlie and Sarah B... 6 months is my prediction- or whenever he gets tired of not having any balls.
(Oops, did I write that? Hope my 13 yr old doesn't read this.)
America's Next Top Model was good this time. Not as good as last cycle with Eva the Diva, who I like even better now due to the "My Life As A Cover Girl" propaganda, but good. I so wanted Kahlen to win, but I agree that Naima had an edge that got notice. I think the reason Kahlen lost was her answer to the "Why should we pick you?" question. C'mon girls, they want you to say because I'm the bomb, because I will rule the industry. Not the I think I'm so ugly stuff. Blech. Noone believes that you think you're ugly. NOONE. Not even 'buy every sob-story' me.
I missed the Survivor finale! I can't believe it. That's the first time ever. I have to admit, once Ulong... or was it Koror? ... started the losing EVERY damn thing, it was kind of depressing for me. I thought, at the beginning, that this was going to be one of the best Survivors ever, but it just wasn't at Australia level for me. Of course, it might just be a victim of all of those Thursday night concerts and banquets. But I am glad that, for once, someone who seemed to deserve it won... I would have screamed if Katie would have won. I mean, Amber? Jenna? Sandra? Vecepia? Please.
So, on a final note, we saw Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith today. DH was super excited. We're all sci-fi geeks. Weird. Wink had seen it on Friday with friends so all weekend I had to do the "la la la, I don't want to know" thing with her, but she went with us today, too. I can't believe I'm saying this, but-
IT WAS AWESOME!
Now, I have a few issues with it, but as far as entertainment value, I loved it. I cried thru most of it. Wink made fun of me, but I was invested in those characters- bad emoting and all.

I heart Oprah!
Oh my goodness! What a trip!
Oprah is my hero... she is just so cool.
Now, I went into this with no expectations... or little, at least. I had heard some stories. But it was AWESOME!
My friend, Christine, and I left home around 3 on Tuesday to do the 4-5 hour trip to Chicago. Not far enough to drive... just about perfect for a road trip. We had a nice time on the way up and got there a little after 7. Checked into our 4 star hotel that I got for a great rate on priceline.com and went down to Navy Pier for dinner. My friend Marc is a manager at the Be-Bop down there and I was hoping to see him. Now, of course I was not organized enough to call in advance and let him know that I'd be there. So, of course, we missed him... by 30 minutes. And the resteraunt was closed for a private party, so we ate at Bubba Gumps. I'm not a seafood fan, but the food was good, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was fun. Try the margaritas. Yum. And then we crashed. At 10.
Up the next day at 5... ugh. I am so not a morning person. Tried to make ourselves lovely for tv. Hopped in a cab and headed to Harpo Studios. We met her friends, Brooke and Crystal, there at the studios. Waited an hour or so and then headed in. For more waiting.
We met some nice people in line from Virginia and more nice people waiting. Actually, I was surprised at how friendly and talkative everyone was. It was cool. I love meeting new people.
You have no idea in advance what the show is, but some people had been called because they were fans of certain people. Some of those people were doing more detective work than Matlock!
So we're called in to take our seats and a producer grabs us and seats us in the third row on the side! We were so close! Must be the bright colors we were all wearing. Everyone is seated and the show producer comes in and is hyping everything. She had on great Chanel mary-janes that I loved.
Out comes Oprah, and let me tell you, she is tiny! And she had on great shoes, too. Probably 800 dollar great shoes, but they were beautiful. I was coveting those shoes.
The show starts and we're all clapping and yelling and it was such an adrenaline rush. I should have been in show-biz, I loved it.
It was a "wildest dream" show and it was sad and fun and amazing all in one.
It airs tomorrow and I'll write more then... look for me on the right side of the stage in the coral jacket!

Back from the Land of Computerlessness
So, somehow, some horrible way, I contracted a virus last week. A frickin virus. (And as Wink will tell you, I don't like that word.) And I'm careful. I don't open attachments, I update my virus protection regularly. I practice safe e-contact. Sigh.
I don't know how people who know little about computers (like me) ever get anything fixed. You have to go here and delete that and delete this and it still doesn't work! For about 24 hours, I tried to pretend that I was actually going to be able to fix it myself. I really worked hard on it- and nothing. So I asked (begged) the dear hubby to help. Now, he knows what he's doing- he's a virtual computer guru- and it still took him almost 24 hours. Thank goodness for my dear hubby. I appreciate all he does, but I really love that he can fix my computer. =) So, to all of the idiots that write viruses: I know you are bored with your pitiful, pathetic existences, but CUT IT OUT! Can't we just all get along?
So in honor of my return, here are a few of my favorite places on the internet. These are the ones I missed while I was gone.

Speaking of trips, I'm headed to Chicago on Tuesday! Just for a day, but I love Chicago. Some friends and I are going to see a taping of Oprah on Wednesday! (Thanks to my friend Chris!) We're going to road trip it and hopefully have dinner at my friend Marc's resteraunt on Tues night. Then we'll go to the taping Wed am and do a whirlwind lunch and shopping tour and head back. Should be fun and fun! I'm so excited, I've been wanting to see an Oprah taping for years.
Also, we just found out that the DH has to head to NYC for an awards dinner in June. (I'm proud.)So, hopefully, we'll be making a long weekend of it! I heart NY.
